Jesus knew that he would experience the humiliation and shame of the cross.  He warned that those who follow him must expect to carry a cross too, and share his shame.  What shame do we face in our society if we choose to follow Jesus?

But what is Gentleness?  Is it the same as weakness?  Was Christ weak?  Is the God of the Bible weak?   A gentle man is a man who knows just how much force is necessary to achieve his purpose – and uses it.

What is a Christian?  A follower of Christ.  But who is this Christ we’re following?  And what is involved in following him?

I’m writing this a few days before the Royal Wedding.  On Friday the 29th of April, Prince William, second in line to the throne, will be united in holy matrimony with Miss Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, at least if everything goes according to plan. 

How rare it is to find a faithful Christian, one who can be relied on to tell the truth, to keep his promises, to pay his debts, to fulfil his responsibilities, to act consistently.   Yet faithfulness is God’s character, and a vital part of godliness.   How much do we desire it?
