The Fruit of the Spirit (9)
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5)
Self- control: the capacity to master our desires. What are the desires that need to be controlled, and what strategies must we use to control them?
But what is Gentleness? Is it the same as weakness? Was Christ weak? Is the God of the Bible weak? A gentle man is a man who knows just how much force is necessary to achieve his purpose - and uses it.
How rare it is to find a faithful Christian, one who can be relied on to tell the truth, to keep his promises, to pay his debts, to fulfil his responsibilities, to act consistently. Yet faithfulness is God's character, and a vital part of godliness. How much do we desire…
Goodness is a very general term. We focus on one aspect of goodness - generosity. We look at examples of generosity within a family, towards friends, among believers, towards strangers, and even towards enemies. What motivates a Christian to be generous? The generosity of God to us through Christ.
The Holy Spirit produces kindness in believers. But how do we define kindness? Perhaps it's more easily recognised than defined. So we look at some examples of kindness from the Bible, and at Jesus, the supremely kind man.
