The Lord Jesus knew that his work was done, his victory complete. Now he could commit his soul to his Father's care and fall asleep.

The Torn Curtain (23:44-49)
As Jesus died, the curtain of the temple was torn in two. A terrible sign for the Jewish nation, the old covenant people but a wonderful sign for the people of the new covenant, the renewed Israel.

As Jesus hung on the cross, darkness fell on the land. The hour of darkness had arrived and Jesus was left alone in the darkness outside.
