Spiritual Decline and Restoration 2

There’s a way back for every believer who has fallen into spiritual decline.  But where does it begin?  With a fundamental change of attitude.  There can be no restoration until we recognise that we are God’s property, created for his glory and redeemed at infinite cost.


John the Baptist: preaching half the truth (7:18-35)

John was expecting Messiah to bring judgement and wrath on the world.  Where did he get that idea from?  From the Scriptures.  But there were other Scriptures that John had overlooked.  Jesus the bringer of wrath is also Jesus the giver of mercy.

Christians should be advancing in holiness and growing in usefulness.  Yet many Christians go through times of spiritual decline.  What are the symptoms?  And is there a way back?


Jesus and his wavering herald (7:18-35)

John’s confidence in Jesus had been shaken.  The man who had once been Jesus’s herald now questioned Jesus’s judgement.  How did  Jesus respond to his wavering servant and friend?


Loving the God we’ve never seen

Many Old Testament believers had close encounters with God.  He appeared to them as an angel, in flames of fire, in visions, in dreams, in storms.  New Testament believers cannot expect such meetings with God.  So should we envy those saints of former days?
