When Pharaoh decreed the extermination of Israel, most Israelites co-operated.  But Amram & Jochebed knew that God still had a purpose for the future so by faith they defied Pharaoh’s decree.  Their son Moses grew up between the two worlds of Egypt and Israel.  But the time came when he had to choose.  By faith he chose God and His people.

The best test of a man’s faith is often the way he dies.  Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, all died in the full assurance of faith.  Each of them believed God’s promises.  Each of them was looking forward to coming of Christ and the world to come.  Each of them was concerned to pass on the promise to the next generation.  How will you die?

Successful – and stupid (Luke 12) & Praise the LORD (Psalm 147)

Abraham believed God’s promise and acted on it.  He was sure that the Lord would give him a son, and then many descendants, and that one of those descendants would be the Saviour of the world.  The son was born and grew to become a fine young man.  But then the Lord told Abraham to kill the son on whom all his hopes rested.  What would Abraham do now?

Abraham left home, family, all the visible, here-and-now privileges he enjoyed in Ur.  He became a  homeless wanderer in this world.  What motivated him to make that choice?  Faith.  And God has honoured that faith.  Abraham has become the father of a vast family.  And he will enjoy an eternal home.
