From Joseph to Jesus (41:1-57)

Many people have seen parallels between Joseph’s experiences and Jesus’ life, but the New Testament never explicitly talks about Joseph as a pre-figurement or pattern of the Lord Jesus. Is is legitimate to use Joseph in this way or is it actually vitally important to do so?
