Giving to Charities – A word of caution

When did you last give to charity? Perhaps it was when you were shopping on the high street. A collector was standing at the shop doorway shaking a box.



The floodgates have opened. Winter 2013/2014 has been declared officially the UK’s wettest winter since records began. Our hearts go out to people who have lost everything – including, in some cases, their nearest and dearest. Many people are very angry.


Christian suffering

Since Christmas, I have been reviewing nine books on the theme of Christian suffering. The rise of the modern health, wealth and prosperity heresy has robbed many Christians of their ability to deal with suffering because they are not adequately prepared and armed with Scripture to meet it.  I personally have gained a lot from this study.


David Livingstone – 200 years

200 years ago, one of my greatest heroes was born. David Livingstone, born 19th March 1813 in Blantyre, Lanarkshire became the greatest of African missionaries, determined to open up the Dark Continent “for Commerce and Christianity”.


The house of mourning

One verse has been often in my mind over the past weeks.  “It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of all mankind, and the living will lay it to heart” (Ecclesiastes 7:4)
