Paul tells us that believers will share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ. And those sufferings come to us in many different forms.
Why did God promise ruin on Israel's neighbours? So that they would know that he was truly the LORD God. Why did God promise restoration for Israel? For exactly the same reason. God reveals his character in wrath and in grace.
