Nothing but leaves (Mark 11)

In Mark 11 we see how Christ’s authority is accepted and his claim to the kingship is acknowledged by the crowd at his entry into Jerusalem. As king he has a duty to root out wickedness which he does in the temple the next day. Christ’s authority to cleanse the temple is not denied that day. But the religious elite challenge his authority the next day because of his actions.

Christ sought fruit from the fig tree but there was nothing but leaves.  God was seeking the fruits of righteousness and justice from Israel, of which the fig tree was a type, and there was nothing but faithless ritual and show. The destruction of the fig tree means that Israel will be condemned.

God is seeking fruit from Christians.
